Hangtown
Here For Now
1999, Blue Heart Records

Hangtown, is a mythical city of a band with big guitars and an equally big case of the blues. Ted Lukas leads this roots rocking band with heart-on-the-sleeve snarling vocals on songs mostly revolving around love’s bitter pill. Coming off like a less optimistic Tom Petty, Lukas and Hangtown produce a good sized head of rock & roll steam. These basic rock tracks are sometimes colored by empathetic organ, crying pedal steel and lonesome banjo. As Tom Petty once sang, you don’t have to live like a refugee. But with such high quality downtrodden music as this, at least this group’s self-imposed misery is paying off artistically.
