ANTJE DUVEKOT CHORDS & LYRICS

NEW WILD WEST

Capo VII

There’s not much prominent guitar on the studio version, so this is basically taken from some of the solo acoustic versions I've seen on YouTube, where she places the capo anywhere from 4th to 6th fret. This studio version has the capo at the 7th fret.

(C)Hey Alexander, you got a look on your face
Like a (F)cowboy with(Gsus4)out a (C)steed (Csus4)
(C)Say Alexander, did you get stuck into place
Like a (F)sailboat with(Gsus4)out a (C)breeze (Csus4)
(C)Ooh Alexander, the name of the game has been (F)changed and you (G)don’t know (C)why (Gsus4)
Scratch the (C)flags you hoisted to infall(F)ible heights
When you were the (Gsus4)good guys(C) (Csus4)

Do you (Am)feel just (F)like a (C)relic
From a (Am)time that will never come (Gsus4)back
Now (Am)valor’s on sale, (F)boys can be girls
(C)There are no damsels in dis(Gsus4)tress
Welcome to your new wild (C)west (Csus4)

(C)Change Alexander, it will sprout from below
With the (F)tact of a (Gsus4)patient (C)pawn (Csus4)
One (C)day, Alexander, you step out for a smoke
And the (F)world that you (Gsus4)knew is (C)gone (Csus4)
(C)Ooh Alexander, you commanded the stage in the (F)age of the (Gsus4)Marlboro (C)man (Gsus4)
Back when the (C)world contorted its(F)elf as your prize
When you were the (Gsus4)good guys(C) (Csus4)

Do you (Am)feel just (F)like a (C)relic
From a (Am)time that will never come (Gsus4)back
Like a (Am)fur(G/B)loughed (C)colo(F)nel
With (Am)nothing (G)to (F)command (Gus4) (C)

In that (Am)room with the elephant
Before (F)you were irrelevant
On your (C)guaranteed square
In the game of (G/B)musical chairs
You were (Am)never unkind
Were just (F)willfully blind
Back when (Am)you (G/B)were (F)blessed
But welcome to your (Gus4)new wild (C)west (Csus4)

Do you (Am)feel just (F)like a (C)relic
From a (Am)time that will never come (Gsus4)back
Like a (Am)fur(G/B)loughed (C)colo(F)nel
With (Am)nothing (G)to (F)command
Welcome to your (Gus4)new wild (C)west

DYLAN THOMAS (1996-1998)

Capo VI

This is on piano on the studio recording, but this guitar transcription is from the Tiny Desk live version on YouTube, although it will still technically allow you to play along with the studio version. For the C/Csus4 bit, just play a regular C chord then slip your pinky finger onto the 3rd fret while still holding down your middle finger on the 2nd fret. Also, the G is played as a suspended Gsus4 throughout the song, and the /B is just a transition walk-down/walk-up thingy.

C (x32010)
Csus4 (x33020)
Gsus4 (320010)
/B (x200xx)

Intro: (C)(Csus4)(C)(Csus4)

Well I (C)never knew your (Csus4)story but I (C)stand before your grave
I have been stumbling be(Csus4)wildered in a (C)daze
The (Csus4)pages of my (C)youth that I so (Am7)carelessly cut loose
If I'd held them (C)harder they would (Gsus4)still have got a(C)way

There's a (C)page for every (Csus4)day containing (C)watermelon seeds
A page for dressing up and (Csus4)jumping off the (C)roof
I’ll fold them (Csus4)well enough to (C)float in shapes of (Am7)little paper boats
And I'll let 'em (C)go and I will and (Gsus4)send them off to (C)you

CHORUS
In (Am)my recurring (/Bdream I’m in a (F)play
But I don’t (C)seem to know my lines and I can never find the (Gsus4)script
But when my (C)curtain call (/B)comes I wanna (Am7)know
I was someone who found a (C)way to just let (Gsus4)go of all that (C)shit

(Am)(F)(C) . . . (Am)(F)(Gsus4)

Well I (C)never knew your (Csus4)story but I (C)stand before your grave
It feels abandoned like the (Csus4)halls you never (C)walked
I was (Csus4)gawky, I was (C)scared, a little (Am7)awkward but I was there
And I’ll be (C)damned if I (Gsus4)let go of that (C)thought

You (F)never did lose money on a (Gsus4)tour of Illinois
You’d have been (C)grateful for the traffic and the (Gsus4)rain
You never (C)got to get your (/B)heart crushed in a (Am7)blender by a boy
When you got (C)home again so (Gsus4)who am I to com(C)plain

CHORUS

(Am)(F)(C) . . . (Am)(F)(Gsus4)

(Gsus4)I suppose your parents were poets, since they named you Dylan (C)Thomas
But you never got to rage against the (Gsus4)dying of the light
So I shall (C)ride with your (/B)ghost and all those (Am7)poets who died young
No I am (F)no unlucky (Gsus4)one

And I (F)know now what I owe and I will (Gsus4)speak it in your name
It’s to drink (F)freely from that well
And not (Gsus4)dwell for one more day in the walls of shame
And the (F)pages of my youth I will no (Gsus4)longer grieve
I will (C)send them off to you, my friend, with (Gsus4)watermelon seeds

CHORUS
And in (Am)my recurring (/B)dream I’m in a (F)play
But I don’t (C)seem to know my lines so I’ll just make them (Gsus4)up
And when my (C)curtain call (/B)comes
You best be(Am7)lieve I was someone who found a (C)way to let (Gsus4)in all of that (C)love

PHOENIX

Capo I

(Am)I am your daughter carved out of your (F)stone
I'm the (Am)seed that you dropped
I'm the marrow of your (F)bone
(Am)I am the one who asked no questions(F)
De(Am)signed to love you (G)unconditional(F)

I (Am)sprouted my shoots and waited for your (F)hands
I (Am)laid down my roots but the summer came and (F)went
I (Am)looked to the sun and longed to feel your (F)touch
But (Am)you knew nothing of (G)unconditional (F)love

CHORUS
I (C)rose up like a (G)phoenix (Am))rose up from your (F)ash
(C)You just turned your (G)back and I'll (Am)never under(F)stand
(C)Though I had no (G)armor (Am)you just let me (F)go
(C)Into the (Am)night to battle with your (G)ghosts

(Am)If I could go back there I'd be my own angel(F)
(Am)She won't buy you a mockingbird, she's incapa(F)ble
So (Am)hush little baby and close your tired (F)eyes
There (Am)are no answers so (G)hush now hushabye(F)

CHORUS

So I (C)gathered up my (G)sorrows
And I (Am)took them on my (F)tongue
And (C)sang them 'til the (G)morning
When the (Am)sun came in so (F)strong
I (C)sang them 'til the ((Am))daybreak
And that's how I became (G)strong (Am)

NEW SIBERIA

Capo II

(G)I was planted in a flower bed of (C)sorrows
Where (Am)raven's laughter blew up from the (D)west
Carried (G)whispers of a dream about to(B7)morrow
And my (Em)heart it just beat borrowed in my (C)chest

So I (G)rode my one-eyed mare across the (C)tundra
As (Am)soon as I was old enough to (D)go
There were (G)dangers that befell the ones who (B7)wandered
But the (Em)fern moss just looked pretty in the (C)snow

And I (Am)watched my breath crystal(Em)lize
Against a (B7)lawless sky
And I was looking (G)for . . .

You
Looking (Em)for you
Looking (D)for new(Em) Siberi(Am)a

Well I (G)followed my small destiny with (C)valor
(Am)Knowing I'd be better off a(D)lone
Than to (G)sit upon a shore with dry-land (B7)sailors
For the (Em)quest slept in the marrow of their (C)bones

And their (Am)hearts were (Em)dull
To the (B7)heron's call
And I was looking (G)for . . .

You
Looking (Em)for you
Looking (D)for you(Em), my new Si(G)beria

Well I (G)grabbed my army knife and scratched the (C)surface
Of (Am)battlegrounds where dragon teeth lay (D)sown
Half a (G)picture of my lover in my (B7)pocket
And the (Em)other half as of yet un(C)known

And at (Am)night I (Em)slept
I was (B7)dreaming of . . .

(G)You
Looking (Em)for you
Looking (D)for new(Em) Siberi(Am)a

I was looking for (G)you
Looking (Em)for you
Looking (D)for you(Em), Siberi(Am)a

I was looking for (G)you, Siberia
Looking for (Em)new Siberia
Looking for (G)you, Siberia

SLEEPY SEA OF INDIGO AND BLUE

Capo II

Hint: the fingering for the (D*) chord is a (C) shape played at the third fret.

(G)You were there
I (D/F#)don't know why
(Am)Maybe we were brothers in an(C)other time
Among a (G)hundred trains
And (D/F#)all those trite refrains
(Em)Somehow you let your train go (C)by

I said I've (G)never felt pain
I travel (D/F#)in submarines
Don't think I'd (Am)make much of a swimmer
So I (C)live under the waves
Because you (G)cannot sink
If (D/F#)you don't try to swim
(Em)But somehow I just let you (C)in

And I don't know how you (D*)made it past my guards
(Am)You knew the (F)secret of their (C)hearts

CHORUS
So (G)lay me down gently, gather me to you
On a (C)sleepy sea of indigo and (D/F#)blue
Sing (G)me song that's tender
And (Em)love will come to (Bm)you
On a (C)sleepy sea my (D/F#)love will come to (G)you

You said I (G)understand your (D/F#)sense of fear
The (Am)city's made of timber and the (C)flames are on the hill
But in a (G)stillborn world, in a (D/F#)strange and troubled time
(Em)I will sing you lulla(C)bies

And I don't know what to(D*)morrow has in store
(Am)But I will (F)pin my heart to (C)yours

CHORUS

(C)And at the crumbling of the hour
In her twilight evening (G)gown (D/F#)
(F)Over waters emerald green
We'll watch the silver sun go (C)down (D/F#)

CHORUS (2x)

SWEET SPOT

Dropped D
Capo V

Bm: x20230

The first verse is done a cappella, but these are the chords if you feel like using 'em.

Once you (D)stood below a (D/F#)mountain
Now you (G)find yourself sur(D)prised
This is the sweet spot of your (A)life (G)(A)
'Cause this new (D)view compares to (D/F#)nothing
Gone the (G)hardship of your (D)climb
This is the (A)sweet spot (G)of your (D)life

And it would (D)seem the ice is (D/F#)melting
It seems you've (G)come in from the (D)cold
This is the sweet spot of your (A)life (G)(A)
And all your (D)streams they are now (D/F#)fuller
Than what their (G)riverbanks can (D)hold
This is the (A)sweet spot (G)of your (D)life

So you must (D)hold these days like (D/F#)treasures
In a (G)jewel box in your (D)heart
This is the sweet spot of your (A)life (G)(A)
For you know (D)well they are most (D/F#)precious
Into an (G)old tree you must (D)carve them
This is the (A)sweet spot (G)of your (D)life

May it (D)only sting a (D/F#)moment
When you (G)dive into that (D)blue
This is the sweet spot of your (A)life (G)(A)
'Cause by the (D)time you hit the (D/F#)surface
It has (G)rearranged (Bm)you (Asus4)
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot of your (D)life (G)(A)(D)

You always (G)wanted something (A)solid
Just (Bm)one solid (Asus4)thing
Oh but (G)angels are so (D)fickle
They only (A)love you when you sing
But you don't (G)need those fickle (A)angels to (Bm)shine (Asus4)
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot of your (D)life (G)(A)(D)

Once you (D)stood below a (D/F#)mountain
Now you (G)find yourself sur(D)prised
This is the sweet spot of your (A)life (G)(A)
'Cause this new (D)view compares to (D/F#)nothing
Gone the (G)hardship of your (D)climb
This is the (A)sweet spot (G)of your (D)life

May it (D)only sting a (D/F#)moment
When you (G)dive into that (D)blue
This is the sweet spot of your (A)life (G)(A)
'Cause by the (D)time you hit the (D/F#)surface
It has (G)rearranged (Bm)you (Asus4)
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot of your (D)life
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot
(G)This is the (A)sweet spot of your (D)life

VERTIGO

Capo IV

Intro: (G)(B7)(C)

(G)You're on the (B7)highwire (C)and I'm climbing (A7)out (A7sus)
And (G)I feel the (G/F#)danger as (C)I steal a (G)kiss from your (Am)mouth (C)
(G)And I will try to hold (B7)steady
(C)I wanna make you be(A7)lieve (A7sus)
That the (G)height of this (G/F#)tightrope is (C)just second (G)nature to (D)me (D/C)(D/B)(D)

But I will (G)break all my (Gmaj7)bones
'Cause I (C)lied about the vertigo
And I (Am)have never (C)been up this (D)high (D/C)(D/B)(D)
There'll be (G)no safety (C)net
When I (G)fall right (G/F#)out of the (Em)sky
There will (Am)be no ambulance (C)waiting
And I (D)have no (D/C)wings to (D/B)fly (D)

(G)We will meet on the (B7)borders, (C)barefoot and (A7)blessed (A7sus)
In (G)colorful (G/F#)graveyards with (C)flower bou(G)quets for the (Am)dead (C)
(G)And I won't ask you to (B7)promise
(C)That I will not come (A7)to harm (A7sus)
But when the (G)wind tugs my (G/F#)courage will (C)you be my (G)brother in (D)arms (D/C)(D/B)(D)

'Cause I will (G)break all my (Gmaj7)bones
'Cause I (C)lied about the vertigo
And I (Am)have never (C)been up this (D)high (D/C)(D/B)(D)
There'll be (G)no safety (C)net
When I (G)fall right (G/F#)out of the (Em)sky
There will (Am)be no ambulance (C)waiting
And I (D)have no (D/C)wings to (D/B)fly (D)

But the (Am)view from this (F)height
High a(C)bove the ferris wheel (G)lights
May (Am)cause me to (F)sway
But I am (C)teaching myself to be (G)brave

(B7)(C)(A7)(G)(C)(G)(D)(D/C)(D/B)(D)

But I may (G)break all my (Gmaj7)bones
'Cause I (C)lied about the vertigo
And I (Am)have never (C)been up this (D)high (D/C)(D/B)(D)
There'll be (G)no safety (C)net
When I (G)fall right (G/F#)out of the (Em)sky
There will (Am)be no ambulance (C)waiting
And I (D)have no (D/C)wings to (D/B)fly (D)

(G)(Gmaj7)(C) . . . repeat and fade

Gsus4: 320013

Intro: (G)(C)(G)(C)

Sweet (G)city of Dublin (C)
I am (G)heading out (C)
Cause all the (G)houses on your streets are burning (Dsus4)down(D)(C)
Oh, but (G)not to worry (C)
'Cause I will (G)be okay (C)
Yes, I will (G)pick myself back up another (Dsus4)day (D)
But I am (Em)dirty from the (C)travel
And (G)I miss my (Dsus4)family

CHORUS
So (G)goodbye(C) Dublin (G)boys, fare(Dsus4)well
(G)I gave you (C)my best shot
But (G)you (D/F#)never could tell
(G)I'm gonna pack my (C)suitcase
And (B7)sing to my(C)self
Goodbye(Dsus4) (G)(Gsus4)

I know that (G)things have gotta change (C)
It's what they (G)always do (C)
Oh, but (G)change has never been known to wait (Dsus4)for you(D)(C)
I'm gonna (G)go where the green is (C)
Don't wanna (G)live for brown (C)
I'm gonna (G)get back on my horse till I go (Dsus4)down (D)
And you're more (Em)beautiful than (C)ever
And it (G)just goes to (Dsus4)show

CHORUS (3x)

SCREAM

Capo II

Intro: (Em)(C)(Am)(B7)

There's (Em)not too many people that I (C)really call my friends
And (Am)every path I take (B7)comes to an end
I (Em)might draw near be(C)fore I slip out like a thief
The (Am)only reason I arrive (B7)is to (Em)leave

I (Em)will find desperation in the (C)middle of this peace
And (Am)I will be your friend, but (B7)friend, I wouldn't count on me
For I will (Em)sell your trust that I (C)didn't even earn
And I (Am)won't be happy with this bridge (B7)'til I can sit and watch it (Em)burn

CHORUS
(Em)You are the fisherman
I am the storm
(C)You become a baby when I (B7)hold you in my arms
(Em)You are a vessel floating upon my sea
And my (C)waves are crashing
And I (B7)cannot hear you scream

I (Em)know that you have given (C)everything you could
To a (Am)brain that willed, but a (B7)heart that never ever would
For it is (Em)lost, unsure, a(C)fraid and it is blind
And (Am)it will claim you were never (B7)on its (Em)side

CHORUS

(Em)I am a cold front and you are a rosebud
(B7)I am a salt mine and you are a deep cut
(Em)I am a flood wave and you are a nutshell
(B7)You are an ice patch and I am the sun
(Em)I am a sharp nail and you are a bare foot
(B7)I am a thumb tack and you are a tire
(Em)I am a fire, I am a tall cliff
(B7)I am a tall cliff and every man falls

CHORUS
